HowTo: Ubiquiti mFi mPower

Ubiquiti recently made their 3 port mFi mPower (EU plug only) available in Europe. It provides 3 plug sockets that can be controlled via WiFi using their freely downloadable mFi controller software. Setup is fairly straight forward.

mPower Initial config

In the first instance the mPower becomes an access point that you can connect your PC/Laptop or in my case my mobile phone to. The access point will have the name of mFi followed by the last 3 octets of its MAC address. There’s no encryption of password required to connect at this point.

HowTo: Ubiquiti EdgeRouter performance testing

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite 3-Port EdgeMAX Router
The EdgeRouter Lite from Ubiquiti promises excellent performance for a great price.
So what performance can you get out of it ?

We tested two things:

Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite 3-Port EdgeMAX Router
Our ISP, Andrews & Arnold, provides native IPv6 over PPPoE, so we thought we would test it.

Ubiquiti mFi Monitoring and Control

The mFi range of products are a somewhat unusual diversion from Ubiquiti’s core networking products. Although they are networked devices their primary task is to perform and assist with building automation. The range consists of ‘m’ class devices, which do all the communications. The mPort can have up to 3 sensors connected to them. These ‘m’ class devices run Linux so you can ssh into them using the default username and password of ubnt/ubnt if you want to run them in standalone mode. LinITX hold stock of the mFi range so it’s available for next day delivery* if you’re eager want to try it out.
