Ubiquiti’s new 16dbi version of the NanoBeam is now in stock. This new creation is half the size and half the weight of its counterpart the NanoBeam 19dbi and contains all the same features and same design that stands the NanoBeams apart from the rest of the Ubiquiti range. Unlike the NanoStations more spread out beam (to help the NanoStations serve as access point) the NanoBeams however are directional devices more suited for Point to Point links and this new one is no exception.

MikroTik User Meeting Venice 2014 – Presentation on QoS and Layer7

RonVeniceOnce again LinITX were in attendance at the European venue for MikroTik’s User Meeting. ¬†Each year it gets larger with MikroTik stating that it was nearly the largest event so far, at approximately 1200 attendees. Ron Touw usually contributes to the meetings with a technical presentation and/or delivers Training in the days prior to the meeting¬†to students from all over Europe who are keen to learn more about MikroTik and how they can use RouterOS to solve their networking needs. ¬†On this occasion his presentation was on managing the every increasing demands placed upon ISPs to deliver ever more bandwidth as if there were no limit.

Ubiquiti announce Training course updates

linitx product Ubiquiti airMAX Certified Admin Course main image.Ubiquiti have renamed the existing UACA (Ubiquiti AirMAX-Certified Admin) and UUCA (Ubiquiti UniFi-Certified Admin) training courses. But this is not just about a simple re-branding. ¬†Ubiquiti have announced that instead of the training being equipment specific, it will be more orientated towards the typical roles encountered in ‘Enterprises’ and ‘Carriers’. ¬†Therefore with immediate effect the UACA becomes the¬†UCWA (Ubiquiti Carrier Wireless Admin) and the UUCA becomes the¬†UEWA (Ubiquiti Enterprise Wireless Admin). Enterprise training will therefore be based upon UniFi, AirVision etc. Carrier will be for example, more on AirMAX and AirFiber etc.

HowTo: Managing POE for multiple radios

A typical wireless broadband provider/WISP usually has multiple radios, each with their own POE connection.

Here’s a way of providing Gigabit POE with the ability to power cycle individual radios:

For Gigabit POE we use a MikroTik RouterBoard Gigabit Passive PoE Injector:

Each POE injector plugs into the main router and has  power fed to it  from a single 28V PSU via a relay, i.e. there is one relay per POE injector.
